The city of Žulová

The first written report about Žulová comes from the end of the 13th century and mentions the local castle, which stood on a hill between the confluence of Vidnavka and Stříbrné potok. After the Thirty Years' War, the castle was ravaged by a devastating fire, and only the defense tower survived. A nave was added to it in 1810, creating a completely unusual church.
Žulová was already sought after by seekers of precious stones and metals in the Middle Ages. There are also written reports about two glassworks from that time. In the second half of the 19th century, it became the center of the West Silesian stone industry. A number of stone quarries still work in the vicinity, and the flooded ones are used as romantic natural swimming pools in the summer.
Another granite landmark can already be seen from a distance - the church dedicated to the Virgin Mary on Boží hora, which became a well-known Silesian pilgrimage site already in the Middle Ages. You can also see Marian columns with statues of the Immaculate Virgin Mary on Mariánské and Josefské náměstí.
City rights were restored to the city by Emperor Francis II. in 1793. After World War II, Žulová was only a village. It was re-proclaimed by the city on 10/10/2006 by the decision of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
Žulová offers visitors refreshments in four hospitality facilities, exceptionally beautiful surroundings
with options for walking and cycling trips in and around Poland and private accommodation. Visitors can get more information at the Information Center on Josefské náměstí (city library), which is equipped with several computers for the public connected to the Internet.
