The history of the town and its surroundings has been connected with gold and mining activities since its vague beginnings. It brought prosperity and falls in the lives of its inhabitants. But not only mining people were alive here. In addition to common crafts, it has been and still is "textile industry" over the last three centuries. Wood processing was traditional and the paper mill was important. At the end of the 19th century, the Förstra family founded a stone processing company, which became one of the largest companies in its field in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. We can also mention a liqueur and fruit canning plant, production of bicycles, two brickworks, and in Ondřejovice iron works with a rolling plate and an engineering plant. The most important business was at the end of the 19th century. included spa and tourism services. Schweinburg's sanatorium was a sought-after medical institution and the region was a well-known tourist and pilgrimage site.
