In accordance with legal regulations and internal management acts, the Archive performs state administration, performs professional activities and performs tasks in the field of archiving defined by its material and territorial competence. Within the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions, it supervises, among other things, the performance of the file service and the disposal of documents, selects and takes over archives created from the activities of state and local government bodies, legal entities established by law and business entities. The Archive also provides comprehensive care for stored archives, which it processes and enables their use, performs state administration and administrative activities in accordance with a special legal regulation, and participates in scientific, research and publishing activities in the field of archiving and related disciplines.
