The town of Zábřeh.

The settlement of Zábřeh was established on the left bank of the Moravská Sázava River, whose main function was probably to protect the ford across the river. The first mention of Zábřeh is on the deed of the Brno Land Assembly from 1254. In 1278, Zábřeh was already a town.

Until the beginning of the 17th century, the history of the town is connected with aristocratic families, which took turns in the possession of Zábřeh. The lords of Kravaře (1397-1446) inherited Zábřeh and wanted to make it the economic center of their North Moravian estates. However, the period of the greatest expansion and development of the town did not occur until the arrival of the Tunkl family (1442-1510). Zábřeh became their seat and received various privileges and privileges from them. Jiří st. Tunkl became famous as the founder of ponds, of which only one has survived in the town - the Oborník pond.

In the 16th century, the Boskovics became the owners of Zábřeh. The last of them, Jan of Boskovice, bequeathed the family property to his nephew Ladislav Velen of Žerotín around 1589. He, for his participation in the estate uprising, during which he became commander of the estate army and was elected provincial governor, was deprived of all his property after the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 and Zábřeh passed into the possession of Charles of Liechtenstein. Zábřeh then remained connected with the Liechtenstein family for three hundred long years.

The Thirty Years' War meant stagnation in the city's development for a long time. Zábřeh himself recovered quite quickly from war disasters, but economically and culturally he did not reach his former level. It was not until the middle of the 19th century, with the start of operations on the Northern Ferdinand Railway in 1845, that it created new preconditions for Zábřeh to become an important commercial and industrial and transport center for the entire Zábřežsko and Šumpersk region. The developing industry also brought some positive aspects to Zábřeh.

The basis of today's appearance of the city was laid at the end of the 18th century, when almost all the houses had to be rebuilt after a devastating fire. The town center retained its characteristic appearance until the middle of the 20th century. At that time, new prefabricated housing estates were built on the outskirts of the city, and even the city center did not resist new buildings.

Despite all the past unfavorable times, Zábřeh still confirms today that it is a city with a long cultural tradition, which has a positive effect on today.
