Bukovany 57, Bukovany 779 00
Bukovany municipal office.

The cadastre area of the village is 316ha.
The village lies at an altitude of 240-304 m a.s.l
has 580 inhabitants.

The village of Bukovany, which is located in close proximity
Olomouc, are first mentioned in
in 1131.
At that time, Olomouc bishop Jindřich Zdík
consecrated the new church of St. Wenceslas and
Bukovany fell just to this one
a gift to the Olomouc church.
Later, part of the village belonged to Olomouc
princely castle and served to
the endurance of the royal hunters.

In 1223, Bukovany was acquitted
obligations to pay land fees and
in 1239 the Moravian Margrave Přemysl,
later King Přemysl Otakar II.,
he donated Bukovany to Viktorin, his son
Bludova.
However, in the end, the whole village got into
held by the bishops of Olomouc and remained
them until 1848, when it was in Czech
countries abolished serfdom.

However, the work obligation continued and
we know that Bukovan citizens had to
go to farm work in the yard in
Braggarts and also on some
other plots of land in the vicinity.
Also noteworthy was the provision that
the semi-peasants also had to cut down six
fathoms (one fathom was less than two meters)
wood in the Bělkovice forest and take them away
to the bishop's residence in Olomouc.
Cottagers were exempted from driving,
but they had to cut their six fathoms
also.

It bears the oldest known seal of the village
date 1649 and depicts a tree
probably resembling a willow, but it is
likely that it should have been a beech to
the name of the village was found.
At the end of 1997, Bukovany made a decision
get an apt heraldic emblem and
banner.
Both symbols were supposed to express both the name
the village and its history.
Because the whole tree is not for this purpose
quite suitable, only a twig was used
beech with characteristic beech trees.
So the green shield was chosen,
symbolizing agriculture, and in it is
beech branch golden with two leaves a
two beech trees.
There are three in the red upper part of the shield
silver cones from the coat of arms of Olomouc
bishopric.
