The city of Konice - one of the five cities
Prostejov district - located in the northern
tip of the Drahanská vrchovina on two opposite slopes of the Jesenka river valley.
The first written report about Konica is related to
dated September 1, 1200. Then here,
probably on the site of today's castle,
stood a fortress, tasked to protect
trade routes leading through Moravia to
Guild. Then when the town was founded,
the fortress became the seat of the owners of the estate.
Konice received city status in 1970.
With the associated municipalities Křemenec, Čunín,
Nová Dědina, Ladín and Runářov has 3, 000 inhabitants and is an administrative center
vast areas of the northwestern part
district.
Konice is located in the northwestern part
Prostejov district in a slightly undulating area
the landscape of the Drahan Highlands, where
fields and meadows alternate picturesquely with forests.
The surroundings of Konica beckon the undemanding
walks, e.g. to the ponds under Konicí,
to Skalky, to Střelnice, to Zaloučí, to
Březský vrch and other places.
In summer, the surrounding forests provide
abundance of mushrooms, raspberries and blackberries. The only one
the swimming pool is in the nearby village of Stražisko,
6 km away. It is usually in operation in winter
ski lift in Kladky (about 8 km
from Konica), undulating terrain is in winter
widely used by cross-country skiers. It's the end of the day
starting point for hiking and for
cycling (the bike can be transported to
Konize by train).
