The observatory and planetarium are located on the southern edge of the metropolis of East Bohemia - Hradec Králové. One of the most beautiful places was chosen for the construction of the observatory - on the ridge between Zámeček and Nové Hradec Králové, from where you can see the west to the Elbe lowland and the southern elongated valley with mirrors of Datlík and Roudnička ponds.
The construction of the observatory took place between 1947 and 1961. The building also houses a branch of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute - Solar and Ozone Observatory and part of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The location of the main dome is 15 ° 50'21 "East, 50 ° 10'38" North, 287 m above sea level.
