The name of the village is derived from the ironic nickname (derisive designation) of some people from the village, kratonoža, kratonoha. It is a relatively old name, the appearance of this type of name in newly established villages is assumed to be in the 11th to 12th century.
The village of Kratonohy (234 m a.s.l.) lies in a flat agricultural landscape southwest of Hradec Králové by road I / 11. Michnovka (257 m a.s.l.) is under the wooded slopes of Velké Dorota (291.6 m a.s.l.).
