Muzeum a Pojizerska galerie Semily

Husova 2, Semily 513 01
The museum in Semile documents the region of the upper Pojizerá with a focus on ethnography, social science and art.

The unconventionally arranged ethnographic exhibition, located in the attic, consists of painted furniture, objects from Krkonoše households such as folk costumes, urban and rural clothing from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, folk nativity scenes, Maizner and Dolenský puppets, monuments to Krkonoše and other craftsmen and other interesting things. The exposition is continuously supplemented with newly acquired exhibits. Part of the museum is a monument to the personalities of Semilska, which represents forty-five personalities associated with the town and its surroundings. Among them are politicians dr. František Ladislav Rieger, dr. Karel Kramář, writers Antal Stašek and Ivan Olbracht, publicist Pavel Tigrid, scientists and inventors František A. Petřina and Bohumil Kučera, music composer Jindřich Hybler, painters František Janoušek, František Jiroudek, Miloslav Janků, Vladimír Komárek, Jaroslav Klápště, Miloslav Jágr, Jiří Salaba, glassmakers Adolf Matura and Pavel Hlava, director Věra Šimková-Plívová and others.

Today, the Christmas and Easter fairs are an integral part of the museum's activities, with an offer of everyday objects and small gifts inspired by traditional folk products.

A unique mission for the given location is represented by extensive gallery activity. On the ground floor of the historic building and in the Pojizerská gallery, historical and art exhibitions are held throughout the year. The museum also organizes lectures and concerts.
