The town of Benešov nad Ploučnicí, whose historic core is a city monument zone, is located in the Děčín district in the Ústí nad Labem region, on the river Ploučnicí. At present, approx. 3, 700 inhabitants.

The first written mention of the village dates from 1311. In 1869, a railway station was opened here on the railway line from Děčín towards Česká Kamenice and Jedlová. The line to Česká Lípa also turns here.
