The village of Žďár is located in the district of Písek in the South Bohemian Region, about ten kilometers southeast of Písek and four kilometers northeast of Protivín. Currently, approx. 251 inhabitants.

The village of Žďár consists of three parts on two cadastral territories, namely Nová Ves u Protivína, Žďár and Žďárské Chalupy.

The first written mention comes from 1460.
