Micro-regions - associations of municipalities are established according to Act 128/2000 Coll. on municipalities for a territorially integrated area, which includes core cities and municipalities with defined natural, technical or historical boundaries or connecting elements. In a general form, these are catchment areas that use the principle of cohesion, where more municipalities connect and link their interests and intentions of individual actions and activities in a territorially integrated area of interest.
The Kahan microregion is located in the South Moravian Region in the western part of the Brno countryside district. It is located about 20 km from the second largest city in the Czech Republic, Brno. It was established in 2000 as an interest association of legal entities and in 2004 as an association of municipalities and towns: Babice u Rosic, Lukovany, Příbram na Moravě, Vysoké Popovice, Zakřany, Zastávka and Zbýšov. In 2008, other municipalities and towns joined the micro-region: Rosice, Tetčice, Říčany u Brna, the towns of Ostrovačice, Kratochvilka and Újezd u Rosic.
The Vysočina region begins on its western border, borders the Domašovsko MRD in the north, the Rosice cadastre in the east and the Ivančicko MRD in the south. In terms of population, the towns of Rosice and Zbýšov dominate.
From the name of MR Kahan, it follows that the life of the inhabitants in the past was significantly influenced by mining activities. To this day, this past is reminded by the areas of extinct mines, heaps, preserved mining towers of the former SIMSON and JINDŘICH mines.
In relation to other MRs of the South Moravian Region, it is therefore one of the smallest MRs of the region. However, the area has a very good location in terms of road connections, it is located near the D1 highway Prague Brno, the region directly passes the 1st class road E23 and the whole area is connected by railways. The availability of IDS JmK is a matter of course.
The MR terrain is undulating with several deeper valleys along watercourses. In the western part of the MR, the peaks of the beginning of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands rise, while the highest of them exceed 450 m above sea level. The eastern part lies in the area of the Boskovická ravine, resp. The Rosice-Oslavany basin, in which hard coal was mined in the past centuries. However, due to the uneconomical operation, mining in the coal district was stopped in the 1990s, and as a result, today MR is one of the most structurally affected areas in the Czech Republic.
The MR surface is covered by economically used fields, coniferous and mixed forests, which in the summer and autumn months offer a rich harvest of forest fruits. A number of watercourses originate here, such as Jelení, Příbramský, Zakřanský, Lukovanský streams, Habřina stream, Čelenka and Bílinka, whose waters are discharged into the Bobrava and Oslava rivers.
Most of the villages of MR Kahan were founded in the 13th century, as evidenced by written records, local churches and chapels. Fragments of medieval fortresses have been preserved in Lukovany and Vysoké Popovice. Recent history is presented by monuments from the time of mining, which has been developing here since 1720. There are a number of memorial crosses, churches and chapels in the MR. The village of Příbram in Moravia boasts its native, the writer Rajmund Habřina, who was inspired by the local landscape and historical events in his work. An example of a new tourist destination is the planned commissioning of the abandoned Zbýšov railway for the museum operation of narrow-gauge trains and the construction of a mining museum, the exposition of the Ministry of the Environment in Zbýšov in the former Jindřich mine.
In each village there is a cultural facility that can be used for conference purposes. MR provides a wide range of sports facilities for various types of leisure activities. Publicly accessible football pitches and specific sports grounds are standard in every municipality. MR is currently traversed by three cycle routes, such as the Permoník Trail and the Mining Trail.
In terms of catering and accommodation, MR seems to be relatively well equipped, as there is at least one catering facility in each municipality. Accommodation facilities are situated in the eastern part of the MR in Zastávka, Tetčice, Zbýšov, Ostrovačice and Říčany near Brno.
In addition to the economic, cultural, social and economic issues of the joint development of MR, they are also coming to the fore
