The town of Studénka, located in the Moravian Gate in the area of ponds on the edge of the Poodří protected landscape area, was created in 1959 by the merger of the municipalities of Butovice and Studénka. The first surviving documents about the settlement of villages are from the 14th century. In 1975, the village of Nová Horka was added to the city.
The most valuable localities of Poodří are made available to the public by the Kotvice educational trail, whose initial stops welcome visitors at the Pasečný bridge in Studénka and at the mill in Nová Horka.
The most famous native of Studeny is Cardinal František Tomášek, other notable natives include parish priest Jan Böhm and builder Matyáš Reinscher.
The buildings of the Old and New Castles are among the protected cultural monuments. The New Castle building houses, for example, a stylish ceremony hall and a wagon museum. Other cultural monuments in Studénka include the Baroque Church of All Saints, the Church of St. Bartholomew rebuilt in neo-Gothic style, chapel of St. Anne, a stone cross and a castle gate, and in Nové Horka a baroque castle built in the 1840s by Count Vettery of Lilien.
The area of the summer and winter stadium offers good conditions for the sports activities of the city's citizens.
