Klimkovice is located very close to Ostrava. At first glance, the bizarre towers of the church and the ancient castle impress with their typical silhouette.
The history of the city dates back to the second half of the 14th century. Their founder is considered to be Beneš I. of Kravař (1383-1398), who elevated the original fortress to a city and granted it a city coat of arms and city rights. In the 15th century, the estate was temporarily acquired by the Opava princes and from 1451 by the knightly family from Bítov. The knightly family of Bzenc, especially Ondřej Bzenec, made a more significant mark in the history of Klimkovice, who built a castle and a church. Since 1600, the Vlčkov family (later the Wilcz family) became the holders of the estate, of which Count Jindřich Vilém Wilczek achieved the greatest honors and political ranks at the Viennese court.

In 1848 and 1854, the city was hit by two devastating fires, during which it took a significant part of the city center, incl. church of St. Katerina and the castle. Other cultural monuments of the city are the church of St. Trinity, arcade on the square and monuments I. and II. world war. In 2002, the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic granted the city a city banner.
