The town of Fulnek is located on both sides of the historic land border of Moravia and Silesia in the district of Nový Jičín. From the geomorphological point of view, Fulnek lies in the Fulnek basin, which is a geomorphological district of the Vítkov Highlands. The first written documented mention of the city is from 1293 and the founders of the city are considered the lords of Lichtenburg. At present, Fulnek has 5, 592 permanent residents and also eleven local parts. These include Fulnek, Děrné, Dolejší Kunčice, Jerlochovice, Jestřabí, Jílovec, Kostelec, Lukavec Pohořílky, Stachovice and Vlkovice.
