Obec Baska

Baska 420, Baska 739 01
The village of Baška is about 3 km from Frýdek-Místek. Baška was created in 1960 by merging the originally separate municipalities - Bašky, Hodoňovice and Kunčiček u Baška into one independent municipality. The history of the oldest part of the village - Kunčiček u Bašky - dates back to the 13th century.

One of the landmarks of Baška is the Baška water reservoir of the same name with a water area of 33 ha, which offers swimming and fishing opportunities in the summer months.

The water reservoir in the village of Baška was created in the place where in the past there was a pond with an area of about 20 ha, on the course of the Baštice stream. Until the dam was opened, there was a rich clay deposit here, which provided material for the production of high-quality "Baštany bricks". Construction began in the fall of 1958 and was put into operation in January 1961. The purpose of the waterworks is recreational use, ensuring a minimum flow under the dam and, in exceptional situations, compensatory improvement of Ostravice for supplying industry. The dam of the waterworks with a volume of 40, 000 m3 is earthen with an inclined sealing core.

Adherents of hiking and more demanding cyclists will appreciate the bike paths and terrains in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy.
