The civic association Parkinson Society was founded in 1994 on the initiative of doctors from the Neurological Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of the University of Prague and the VFN in Prague.
For almost twenty years, he has been helping not only patients with Parkinson's disease, but also their families and loved ones. The company organizes reconditioning stays for parkinsonians, as well as exercises, speech therapy, cultural and sports events in 22 regional clubs throughout the country.
The Society tries to increase the awareness of the general public through the magazine Parkinson, the website www.spolecnost-parkinson.cz and also by organizing media campaigns on the occasion of World PN Day. Since 1997, the Parkinson Society has been part of the European Parkinson's Disease Association.
In the Czech Republic, the number of people suffering from Parkinson's disease is estimated at approximately 16, 000 people, in Europe it is 1.6 million people. It is assumed that as the population ages, the number of patients will unfortunately increase.
