Moravičany is located at the confluence of the Morava and Třebůvka rivers in the Mohelnická brázdy plain.
Since 1976, the villages of Doubravice and Mitrovica have been part of Moravičany. At the last population census, a total of 1, 295 people were reported in Moravičany, of which 140 were in Doubravice and 62 in Mitrovica.
Due to its location and transport accessibility, the village of Moravičany is an excellent starting point for hiking routes and cycle paths to the Protected Landscape Area of Litovelské Pomoraví, declared in 1990. Other important locations include the Doubrava forest complex and the unique nature reserve Moravičanské jezero, declared in 1995. The size of the lake is 92 ha, has ornithological and recreational significance, provides a rich water resource and is sought after by fishermen.
The village belongs to the oldest inhabited localities in the Šumperk district. The first traces of settlement appeared already in the younger Stone Age - about 2500 years BC. Numerous excavations have documented the Lusatian culture from the period 1200-600 years BC, later settlements were established during Celtic and Roman. The Slavs settled in this location as early as the 6th century, in the 11th and 12th centuries there was a Slavic fort here.
The first verified mention of Moravičany dates from 1249. The village burned down twice in its history, the first time during the Thirty Years' War, the second time in 1860. Around 1848, Moravičany was one of the most advanced agricultural villages in the Mohelnice judicial district.
