The town of Chrast lies in the district of Chrudim at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, at an altitude of 292 m above sea level. Its area covers an area of 1783 ha. The town also includes the local parts of Podlažice, Chacholice and Skála. Chrast was founded in the second half of the 13th century by a Benedictine monastery in Podlažice. At present, the city has 3129 inhabitants.
