The town of Nové Město pod Smrkem was founded in 1584 and is located in the northeastern part of the Frýdlant promontory between Jindřichovice Ridge and Smrk Mountain. Establishment of the city is closely related to the extraction of tin and other non-ferrous metals in the area. It was also known for its textile and porcelain production. At present, Nové Město pod Smrkem has 3971 inhabitants and has three parts of Hajniště, Ludvíkov pod Smrkem and Nové Město pod Smrkem.
