The Statutory City of Most is located in the Ústí Region, about 80 km northwest of the capital city of Prague. The city is located in the undulating landscape of the geological fault of the Ore Mountains, where brown coal reserves were discovered. Surface mining of brown coal took place here, today the area has been successfully reclaimed and new recreational and sports centers are being built.
The first historical mention of the settlement of the place where the town of Most is today comes from the Latin Kosmas chronicle from the 11th century, which states that a wooden bridge path led through the local marshy landscape. Hence the name of the town.

Extensive brown coal mining is associated with our city. In places where intensive open-cast mining took place a few years ago, successful reclamation is taking place and new recreational zones are being established. Mostecko also offers a wide range of hiking and cycling trails.
