The village of Obrataň lies at the western border of the Pelhřimov district, roughly halfway between the towns of Pelhřimov and Tábor.
The local parts of Bezděčín, Dvořiště, Údolí, Moudrov, Nechyba, Sudkův Důl, Šimpach, Vintířov and Hrobská Zahrádka also belong to Obratan.
The first written mention of the village dates from 1365. At present, Obrataň has 805 permanent residents.
The village has its own water source, water supply and sewerage and wastewater treatment plant. Gas is also introduced here. There is also a kindergarten and primary school, a library, a general practitioner's and a dentist's office, a sports hall at the primary school and other facilities.
The dominant feature of the village is the church of St. Peter and Paul, founded in 1384, standing on a hill in the middle of the square.
Near the church is a monument to T.G. Masaryk and there is also a monument to Pavel Bělinský and a monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars.
The interesting technical monuments of the village include a narrow-gauge railway built in 1906 from Obratan to Jindřichův Hradec with a length of 46 km. The track gauge is 760 mm.
The Museum of Insulators and Lightning Arresters of Mr. František Daňek in the nearby settlement of Dvořiště is also a unique technical attraction. The museum is located in the former mill 2.5 km from Obratan and is part of the cycle route No. 1185 Černovice - Pacov.
The preservation of the landscape around Obratan is evidenced by two protected areas - the natural monument U Bezděčína with abundant spring snowdrop and the natural monument Rašeliniště u Vintířova with rare species of plants, such as the May Warbler.
