The border town and once also the royal town of Domažlice with the neighboring Chodsko region is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in West Bohemia. The earliest written records of Domažlice date back to the end of the 10th century, when there was only a settlement. At present, the city is open to lively tourism and forms one of the important bridges between Western and Eastern Europe. The most important events in Domažlice include the Chodské slavnosti festival in August, associated with a traditional pilgrimage on the nearby hill Vavřinec.
