The town of Nepomuk is located in the southeastern part of the Pilsen Region, 35 km from Pilsen and 25 km from Klatovy. The city currently has about 3, 800 inhabitants and is the seat of an office with extended powers. The oldest written mention of Nepomuk is related to the founding of a nearby Cistercian monastery in 1144. The dominant feature of the landscape is the hill with the famous castle Zelená Hora (536 m.n.m.), towering over Nepomuk. The world fame was brought to the city by a local native of St. Jan Nepomucký (+1393). Thanks to its rich history, picturesque surrounding nature, many monuments and varied cultural life, Nepomuk is one of the attractive, yet crowded visitors, uncrowded, tourist destinations.
