The Moravian Museum, the second largest and also the second oldest museum institution in the Czech Republic, was founded in July 1817 by the imperial decree of Francis I. It preserves over 6 million objects in its collections, which represent valuable material from the fields of natural and social sciences. In addition to collecting and scientific research work, the museum organizes exhibitions, lectures, excursions, deals with work with young people and, last but not least, shows extensive publishing activities. The Moravian Museum is a contributory organization of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and a member of the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The Moravian Museum is a research organization. You will find us not only in Brno, but we also manage and offer visitors other facilities in the South Moravian Region.
