The name State Scientific Library in Hradec Králové was acquired by the library in 1954, and essentially since then it began to fulfill its main task, which continues to this day: to build a universal fund of scientific literature and to provide all appropriate professional services within the entire East Bohemian region.

All citizens over the age of 15 can become readers and users of the library.

There are 130, 000 volumes of books and more than 2, 000 titles of magazines and newspapers in the free selection. There are 323 study places, some equipped with computers, and study boxes for focused individual and small group study.
