The village of Poděšín is located in the middle of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in the district of Ždár nad Sázavou, region of Vysočina, approximately halfway between Ždár nad Sázavou and Jihlava.

The first written mention of the village dates back to 1233 and is very closely related to the beginnings of the Nizhkov monastery and church during the reign of King Václav I, son of Přemysl Otakar I, making it one of the oldest villages in the Ždár nad Sázavou district.

There are currently 258 inhabitants living in the village.

In the village you will find the chapel of the Virgin Mary rebuilt in 1874 from the belfry that stood here already in 1708.
There is a pond in the village. The Poděšín stream rises in the vast forests above Poděšín and has two springs. One spring originates in Samotín, where there are municipal wells, and the other all the way to the Janovice cadastre in Špitálské les.

Tourist trails have been created around the village.
