Why is radon dangerous?
It is a colorless gas, tasteless and odorless. It is formed as a product of radioactive decay of radium and uranium and, due to its instability, gradually disappears with further radioactive decay.
Upon inhalation, the particles released by this breakdown settle on the lung tissues and irradiate the body internally for a long time. It is generally known that radioactive radiation can cause carcinogenic changes in the body.
Used measuring instruments:
Soil air samples are taken from a depth of 80 cm using the lost tip method, then analyzed with a RADON DETECTOR - LUK3B measuring instrument, calibrated at the State Metrological Center for Radon Volume Activity Meters, Příbram - Kamenná. Gas permeability is determined by its direct measurement in situ with a portable field device RADON-JOK.
Measurement of volume activity and radon conversion products in buildings - weekly measurement - we perform the system of integral electret dosimetry RM 1, evaluation device EVR - 5. Selection of measuring points and placement of electret dosimeters is performed in accordance with the methodology Radiation protection - Measurement and evaluation of natural radionuclides in construction sites. Dose rates of gamma radiation are measured with a PM 1203M dosimeter.
