The town of Potštát lies on the Velička creek in the Přerov district. It is located at an altitude of 502 m above sea level and its area is 4, 860 hectares. The first written mention of the village (then already a town) comes from 1322. At present, Potštát has 1, 189 permanent residents and also five city districts. These are Potštát, Boškov, Kovářov, Kyžlířov and Lipná. The historical core of the city has been a city monument zone since 2003.
