Obec Dolni Ujezd


Dolní Újezd is situated on the border of Bohemia and Moravia 6 km southwest of Litomyšl, in a slightly undulating landscape on the edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. It is picturesquely situated in the rugged terrain on both sides of the Desná river valley. The lowest elevation is 370 m, the highest point is 436 m above sea level. Today's village was formed by the merger of a number of smaller villages and settlements, after which the local names such as Rovinka, Malvařice, Prague, Pazucha, Ždár, Přibiňoves, Kabatoves, Záves, Bořkov and Dolečka. Part of the village are smaller settlements Jiříkov (founded in 1785 by George of Wallenstein) and Wenceslas (founded in 1730 by Václav Trautmansdorf). Together with them, Dolní Újezd currently has 1871 inhabitants and their number increases every year.
   The rich history goes back to the middle of the 12th century, when the village is mentioned as Újezd na Lubného in the deed of King Vladislav dated to 1, 167. Number of inhabitants 1, 877. Mayor - Ing. Josef Kladivo. Dolní Újezd associates villages Jiříkov and Václavky. In addition to a number of sights, the village currently offers its inhabitants and visitors a wide range of other activities. There is a cinema in operation and a social hall with a theater stage is arranged. For cultural purposes, there is also a natural area in the valley of the Desná River, including the traditional “Venetian Night” and the folk festival Újezdské Indian Summer at the end of August. Near the area there is a football field, tennis and volleyball courts and a swimming pool with three pools. The whole location creates an ideal environment for cultural and sports activities of citizens and visitors of Dolní Újezd.
