Šenov, formerly also called Šonov, Schönow, Schönhof, Szenow, belongs to the oldest settlements in Silesia. The exact date of foundation is not known, but archaeological finds in the surrounding areas confirm the settlement of this area already in the Paleolithic. The first written mention of Šenov is dated 1305.
Since 1998, Šenov has been a town.
