Statutarni mesto Ostrava

Martinovska 3154, Ostrava - Martinov 723 00
STATUTORY CITY OF OSTRAVA
Martinov urban district.
Martinov is located on the right bank of the Opava river, in the places where the Opava hills begin. It lies on a Sudeten gravel base with fairly fertile clay.
In the past, the landscape was probably heavily wooded with a predominance of deciduous trees, which is evidenced by some of the local nomenclature of the surrounding villages such as Poruba, Velká Polom, Hrabová, etc.
Forests influenced the climate and caused more rainfall.
The flowing waters in the nearby Opava and Odra rivers used to have much more water than they do today.
The nearby Opava River carved out deep riverbeds that changed frequently over the centuries and became the cause of border disputes between the owners of individual estates.
The local name Martinov was probably derived by the possessive suffix to the personal name Martin. It has been changed several times over time.
Municipal symbols - the municipal coat of arms and the municipal banner were granted to Martinov by the resolution of the Ostrava City Council of April 11, 1995, as symbols of the municipal district:
- the coat of arms of Martinov is based on a historical seal from the year
1820 - it is the third seal in the sequence.
The coat of arms of Martin shows Saint Martin on horseback, cutting his cloak with his sword to share with a beggar.
The coat of arms has, in a blue field of a shield, on a silver horse galloping to the right, the figure of St. Martin in Roman armor, who cuts a red cloak with a sword.
The Martinov banner on the obverse (face) repeats the form of the Martinov coat of arms, and on the reverse (reverse) it has a red, white and blue stripe from the upper edge of the banner.
