Obecni urad Luzany

Luzany 144, Luzany 507 06
Lužany is one of the oldest settlements in Jičín. Hájek claims in his writings that a church with a rectory stood here already in the 11th century. The first mention dates back to 1052. In the 14th century, Lužany was described as a large village. The name probably arose from the fact that the village is built in a shallow valley where there were numerous puddles (Loužany = Lužany). Others derive the name of the village from the rivers.
Since the middle of the 19th century, a lively cultural and social life has flourished in the village. In 1858, a volunteer theater association began its activities in the inn building, in 1891 a volunteer fire brigade was founded, and in 1907 the Sokol gymnasium. The beekeeping association has a long tradition in the village.
In 1923, the electrification of Lužan began, in 1925 the village was connected to the telephone network. In the 1960s, a municipal water supply system with a pump, sidewalks and shops were built in the village. In the 1990s, a sewage system with a wastewater treatment plant was built.
