Within the Department of Genetics and Breeding, the Kroměříž Agricultural Research Institute is dedicated to the study and protection of the genetic diversity of cereals, especially spring barley, oats and rye, which make up our world collection of genetic resources. These resources are an invaluable asset to our breeding programs, which aim to develop new cereal cultivars with high quality, yield and resistance to various stresses.
Breeding focuses on special utilitarian directions, such as healthy nutrition, feed value, biofuels or industrial use. Our main crops include barley, wheat, triticale and other grain crops.
Our department also carries out propagation and maintenance breeding of our own cereal varieties, which are registered and offered for sale. Our varieties are sought after for their excellent properties and adaptability to different growing conditions.
We also provide testing services for new breeding of cereals for domestic and foreign partners. Our tests are carried out according to international standards and we ensure their independent evaluation.
Our department cooperates with a number of domestic and foreign institutions, such as universities, research institutes, seed companies or professional organizations. We are involved in several national and international projects that support the development of our research and breeding.
