Obecni urad Horni Berkovice

Podripska 13, Horni Berkovice 411 85
The village is located 12 km southeast of Roudnice nad Labem on the outskirts of the district Litomerice.

The first written record dates back to 1344, but according to legend, it is an ancient Slavic village founded in the 9th century by the forefather of the Pšovans named Beš, after which it was said to be Beškovice. This name was named until the end of the 16th century, when it started to be written Burning, later Horní Beřkovice. An integral part of the village is the local psychiatric hospital, which is located in the Baroque castle building and adjacent pavilions. This chateau was built between 1738 - 1756 by Count Adam František Hartig. The last owner, the landowner Josef Černý, sold the chateau in 1889 to the Land Office of the Land of Bohemia, which was established there in 1890 by the Land Institute for the Insane. It includes a large park that was adapted in the English style at the beginning of the 19th century.

Another landmark of the village is the building of the elementary school, built in 1912. Currently, in addition to local children commute to pupils from Ctiněves, Černoučka, Kostomlat pod Řípem and Libkovice pod Řípem from 1 to 9 class.
