The village of Slavkov is located southwest of the city of Opava on the road I/46 in the direction of Olomouc.
With its area of 1, 105 ha and a population of 1, 814, it is one of the largest municipalities in western Opava. The Slavkova cadastre is located at an altitude of 339 m. Along the southern part of the cadastre flows the river Hvozdnice, in the vicinity of which remnants of floodplain forest have been preserved, which form the protected natural creation of Hvozdnice with an educational trail. It also includes a system of three ponds that are used for fish breeding.
The first written report documenting the existence of the village of Slavkov comes from 1224, when King Přemysl Otakar I donated Slavkov to the town of Opava. In this deed of donation, the village is mentioned as "Zlawicova Wes". The oldest building in Slavkov is the castle in the center of the village, which was created by rebuilding the original fortress in 1586.
The second oldest building is the church of St. Anne, a single-nave baroque building from 1657. Among the historical landmarks, there is also a sandstone statue of St. Jan Nepomucký dated around 1722, the baroque chapel of St. Barbory, a column with an image of the Virgin Mary. It is also memorable for the municipality that it made it possible to organize a spectacular camp of the Czech people in Silesia on September 25, 1887, in the Slavkov meadows, where basic political, national and cultural principles were formulated
the demands of the Czech nation. Numerous archaeological finds have been found on the cadastre, which prove the oldest settlements
farmers from the beginning of the Neolithic (5000 years BC). The richest are the finds documenting the linen culture from the early Iron Age (7th to 6th century BC). Recent finds have turned up clues
of Slavic settlements from the middle and younger settlement period (9th and 8th centuries BC).
