The first written mention of the village dates from 1250. It is likely that there was a settlement there before that, which was destroyed by Tatar raids in 1240-1241. Before 1265, the village of Žibřidovice was established next to Darkovice, and between them, the oldest pond in the Opava region with a mill. After the death of Přemysl Otakar II. there were battles for inheritance in the borderland and during this war fury Darkovice was deserted. During the 14th and 15th centuries, the village changed several owners. In 1517, the regional governor handed over Darkovice to the hereditary property of the Hlučín lordship. At that time, Mr. Bernard from Zvola and Hlučín owned Hlučín, followed by Štěpán from Vrbno. In 1742, Maria Theresa lost Silesia, so Darkovice fell under Prussian rule.
In 1823, after the robot was abolished, the subjects built a chapel for this event in the village of Darkovice. Currently, in the chapel of St. Florian's mass is held twice a year on the occasion of the pilgrimage. In 1867, a school was built in Darkovice, and although the official language was German, people in the village spoke the Moravian dialect.
In 1979, it was built in the village of Kulturní dům. In the same year, Darkovice became a district of Hlučín, since 1991 it has been an independent municipality.
In the village, we can find services such as locksmithing, carpentry, hairdressing and many others.
