The town of Javorník is located approximately 22 km northwest of Jeseník and lies in the Bohemian Silesia at the foot of the Rychlebské Mountains. The local parts are Bílý Potok, Horní Hoštice, Travná and Zálesí. One of the biggest landmarks of Javorník is the chateau Jánský Vrch, the historical center of the town was designated as an urban conservation area.
The first mention of the settlement of Javorník goes back to the deep past and suggests that there could be a settlement of prehistoric farmers. Other findings come from the Late Roman period, when coins were found on a nearby hill or a vessel from Rychleby, dating back to that time. However, the first written record comes from around 1290.
