Obec Sudkov

c. 96, Sudkov 788 21
The village of Sudkov.

History of Sudkov.
The first settlers came to our region probably after 1207 during the colonization of Northern Moravia. The first written report is in the land registers from 1353, when Anna, the wife of the lord from Sovince, donated half of the village of Sudkova to her son. The gentlemen from Sovince were therefore the first owners of the village. They sold it in 1373 to the governor of Mirov.
The name of the village probably comes from the Old Bohemian first name "Sudislav", which was briefly pronounced "Sudek" and after which the village got the name "Sudkov".
In the 14th and 15th centuries, the village belonged to lords from Šumvald. In the years 1468 - 1471, during the fierce battles for the crown of the Czech kingdom between King George of Poděbrady and King Matthias of Hungary, northern Moravia was plundered by Hungarian and German troops. At that time, Brníčko and the castle belonging to the Tunkls were destroyed, as well as both fortresses in the neighboring village of Kolšov. Until 1480, Sudkovo was owned by Mr. Markvart from Zvola, who sold the village to Jiří Tunkl - lord of Brníček - because of the pond. At that time, ponds stretched from Klášterc to Úsov. Also between Postřelmov and Zábřeh lay the defunct village of Závořice with a pond of around 100 hectares. Since 1490, the village was part of the large Zábrež manor. The last Czech holder of the manor and therefore the village of Sudkova was Ladislav Velen from Žerotín (1589 - 1621). After the Battle of the White Mountain, his four estates were confiscated and in 1622 given almost free of charge to the Imperial Commissioner Charles of Liechtenstein.
