The town of Strážnice is located in the district of Hodonín in the South Moravian Region, 15 km northeast of Hodonín, on the left bank of the Velička River. The first written mention of the city dates back to 1302. Strážnice was at that time the third largest city in Moravia and is also famous for the production of wine. Education in Strážnice has a great tradition, based on the unity of the Brethren. Personalities like Jan Amos Comenius, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk studied in Straznice and Jan Evangelista Purkyne worked as a teacher at the Piarist High School.
