The municipality of Lhota pod Hořičkami is composed of three separate settlements, namely the municipality of Lhota and its two other local parts - Újezdec and Světla.
Lhota is a very common name of villages that arose during the period of high medieval colonization, i.e. during the 13th and the first half of the 14th century. The inhabitants of these villages were exempted from all fees for a certain period of time, i.e. a period of time (old Czech lhota, lhóta) for cutting down the forest and turning new territories into fertile fields. The first written mention comes from 1405.
The name Újezdec is derived from the designation of the area bounded by a specific detour, the so-called újezd. Townships were usually wooded and sparsely populated units, which were defined, for example, by streams, rivers, rocks and other natural phenomena. Újezdec in Lhota pod Hořičkami was also created during medieval settlement. The first written mention is from 1416.
Svetlá - this is a classic topographical name, where we will look for a very difficult exact origin. There is a bright spot in a wooded area, a lighted path through a "valley" in which part of Světlá lies, or a part illuminated by the southern to southwestern sun - a bright slope above the meander of the Úpa river. Of all the three parts of our Lhota, we have the oldest written mention of Světlá, already from 1403.
