The town of Stochov - a birthplace of Saint Wenceslas.
Stochov is the third biggest town of former Kladno district (after Kladno and Slany). It lies by the west boundary of the district. It is situated on an area of 961 ha and is optimally positioned: a distance from Kladno is 14km, from Slany 13km, from Rakovnik 21km and from Prague 39km. They lie by the motorway in the same directions and there is a railway connection in the direction from Prague and Chomutov here, as well. The elevation above sea level is between 396 m and 448 m.
History:
The village was connected with the Premysl dynasty in its oldest history.
After a legend, the prince St. Wenceslas should have been born here, namely in 903. The legend furthermore states that in a place of a residence, which St. Wenceslas was born in, his grandmother St. Ludmila planted, in the day of his birth, an oak twig which massive tree has grown tall from. It has been still standing at Stochov village square.
However, the oldest written reference to Stochov dates back only to 1316. A settlement of the site is of far older date, which is shown by archeological discoveries from Celtic period.
A whole line of small noble and church owners was exchanged in an occupancy of Stochov in the Middle Ages.
In 1591 Jaroslav Borita from Martinice bought Stochov and the village remained in Martinic's property (Smecno demesne) up to 1848. The village was promoted to a town in 1967. Today the town has 5 600 citizens.

Sport:
Multipurpose sports facility, located at the west boundary of the town, enables citizens to spend their leisure time in an active way.
Tennis-courts, volleyball court, small soccer field and athletic field are available in the premises in addition to a conventional football field. At the 1th of June 2002 sports hall was festively open. It enables various enjoyment of sports, especially bowling, squash, sauna, whirlpool bath. A bar for refreshment.
Sports are also often done at playing field and in gymnasiums of a primary school. For example badminton matches and indoor soccer matches are played here. Pupils competed in school league in discharging, table-tennis, baseball, softball and basketball.
A local Sokol gymnasium enables further enjoyment of sports; tournaments for example in hockeyball, table hockey, table tennis take place here and dance parties are held here in addition to sports.
The town has assigned a space for chess players in a hall of culture centre.
