The picturesque town of Bechyně lies at the confluence of the river Lužnice and the river Smutná in the district of Tábor in the South Bohemian Region. Bechyně was founded in 1323 by Jan of Luxembourg. Bechyně held various aristocratic families, but the most important owners were the Šternberks and then the Rožmberks in the second half of the 16th century. At present, the city has about 6, 000 inhabitants and is famous especially for spas and ceramics.

The town of Bechyně is an ideal place for history lovers, but also for hikers and cyclists. The surroundings of the city are interwoven with well-marked hiking and biking trails. The Lužnice pod Bechyní valley is also worth a visit, where the rock mass around the river creates extremely romantic places.
