The town of Humpolec is located in the Pelhřimov district in the Vysočina Region. About half way along the D1 motorway between Brno and Prague. Humpolec was founded as a guard place in the middle of border forests, where led an important trail leading from Prague to Moravia. The first written mention of Humpolec is from 1178, when the village was then donated by King Přemysl Soběslav II. The first known holder of the town is therefore the Teutonic Knights, then it was in 1325 Želiv Monastery and then the Red Star cruisers. Later the village belonged to the Lords of Lipá and later to Dubá, Leskovec, Trčková from Lípa and other noble families. Under the last owner - Count Wolkenstein-Troszburg - Humpolec was declared a free town in 1807.
