The village of Stožec is located on the territory of the Šumava National Park, in the valley of the river Studená Vltava and has five local parts - Stožec, České Žleby, Dobrá, Nové Údolí, and Černý Kříž. Currently, approx. 200 inhabitants.
The first written mention is from 1769. On August 16, 1894, a post office was established here, and in 1910, a railway line was brought to the village. After World War II, most of the local population was displaced as they were of German nationality.
