The picturesque town of Vlachovo Březí in the Bohemian Forest lies at the junction of the two South Bohemian towns of Prachatice and Strakonice. The first written mention of the settlement of Březí can be found only in the last quarter of the 13th century. At the time of the greatest craft flourishing at the beginning of the 19th century, Vlachovo Březí had almost 3, 000 inhabitants. In 1868, it was promoted to a town by Emperor Francis Joseph I. At present, Vlachovo Březí has 1, 713 inhabitants and offers rich sports and cultural activities.
