Dlouhý Most was established as a Lutheran settlement of German coal-miners in the middle of the sixteenth century along the provincial route connecting Bohemia with Lusatia. There were wetlands in one section of the trail, so the road had to be reinforced. There was a long bridge, according to which the settlement was named.
