The village of Kunín is only 4 km from the town of Nový Jičín. It stretches along both banks of the river Jičínka. The village was originally founded as a forest rope village at the end of the 13th century. The village flourished at the end of the 18th century under the administration of Countess Walburga of Truchsess-Zeil, who supported education. She founded an educational institute for youth here, the only one of its kind in Europe, which even František Palacký attended.
