The city of Třinec is located in the district of Frýdek-Místek, about 32 km southeast of Ostrava. Třinec is an industrial city and is home to one of the largest metallurgical companies in the Czech Republic Třinecké železárny. The river Olše flows through the town from the south and is surrounded by the Moravian-Silesian and Silesian Beskydy Mountains with peaks Javorový, Ostrý, Čantoryjí. Currently, 37 841 people live here.
