The Research Institute of Land Reclamation and Soil Protection was established by the Ministry of Agriculture on June 23, 2006. It is a public research institution and is responsible for developing knowledge and transferring knowledge in scientific disciplines of soil protection, complex land reclamation, pedology, landscape creation and use. It also performs soil and water analyzes, operates the SOWAC-GIS geoportal, creates maps and provides data. VÚMOP's headquarters are located at Žabovřeská 250, Prague.
